The failure rate predicted with the FIDES Guide 2004A for ceramic capacitors with high C.V product is sometimes very high, especially if the life profile has strong thermal cycling.
This high failure rate is the expression of the technological difficulty to have a high capacity with a strong insulation in a small package with ceramic capacitor. Nevertheless, the failure rate predicted with FIDES is perhaps too penalizing for ceramic capacitor with high C.V product (and especially for type 2 ceramic capacitors).
Therefore, as a palliative way, if the C.V product of a capacitor is not at technological limit for its size, it may be acceptable to asses it as medium C.V product.

I′m wondering what is the "V" used in the CV product. Is it "Vapplied" or "Vrated" ?
I don′t get how I can determine if my ceramic capacitor is a type 1 capacitor or a type 2 capacitor.

The V of the C·V product is the rated voltage.
Type I ceramic capacitor are stable and precise.
Type II ceramic capacitor are found in higher value but are less stable and less precise.

Is it correct to say that the high FITs for Type II ceramic capacitor with high C.V has been addressed by FIDES 2009, and it is now ok to put high C.V for ceramic capactiors when using FIDES 2009 ?
